“Hurricane" Koa Tenor
Solid Koa w/Curly Maple

I'm calling this koa tenor “Hurricane" because at the time it was being finished, we had a hurricane off the coast of Southern California. I has colorful woodgrain, a little bit of curl and a tone that is warm and sweet.
I took this uke to the Los Angeles Ukulele Festival and several of the performers fell in love with its sound and the feel of the ukulele itself in their hands.
The back matches the front.
Instead of my normal East Indian roseewood for the binding, I used some very curly for the binding and the center stripe down the back. I really like the results.
The wood is so shiny that I had to turn it a little so I would get my refection in the uke.
The accents are a crazy big leaf maple burl.
The sides are a little bit curlier than the top and back which gives a nice effect.
The neck is Honduran Mahogany with a carbon fiber truss rod.
The fingerboard and bridge are East African Ebony. Nut and saddle are natural water buffalo bone.
The tuners are black Gotoh Planetary tuners.
Here a picture of the sides that show a very attractive curl. There is a side sound port so the player can hear their music a little better.

No abalone on this one, just curly maple for the binding and rosette with thin black and white striping around the borders.
The head stock is Koa.
